Vota Danilevicius

Sassuolo 2, Livorno 3

The graffiti that has appeared in Livorno for the Mayoral elections urging people to 'Vote Danilevicius' may be on to something. Thomas' last minute goal salvaged the win for Livorno that they had looked like throwing away.

The first half finished goalless, with Livorno playing their usual possession game, but with few goal scoring chances, whereas Sassuolo had less of the ball but better chances. Indeed, Danilevicius had missed the Amaranto's best chance in the first half when he fired wide when one on one with the keeper.

History repeated itself in the second half when the Amaranto scored 2 in 2 minutes, just as they had against Salernitana. The first came from Miglionico who rose well to head home a corner. Two minutes later Danilevicius attoned for his earlier error and ran on to a good pass between two defenders from Tavano. Not having to think, only strike, Thomas slotted the ball home to make it two.

Unfortunately two minutes later one of the most consistent performers of the year, De Lucia, went off injured. Unfortunately the first thing his replacement, Mazzoni, did was pick the ball out of the net. This led to twenty minutes of Livorno forgetting how to play. Rather than keep possession they defended deeply and gave the ball away. Unsurprisingly, Sassuolo equalised and if it wasn't for the heroics of Mazzoni, Livorno could have been in a much worse position. But then up popped Thomas in the last minute of the game to reach a deflected ball and poke it past the keeper. Next stop AlbinoLeffe at home.
