Livorno's Music Scene
Indovena, Livornese bandLivorno has an incredibly lively music scene covering all areas of music. There are music schools, choirs, classical concerts, and many young local bands trying to make their mark, some of whom already have several cds under their belts. The problem for many of these young bands is finding places to perform, as that is one thing Livorno does seem to lack. Over the next few weeks I will be featuring as many of these bands as I can, as well as all the music venues, schools, choirs, forthcoming events, and music-related businesses currently working in Livorno. Giles Foster's Debut Album - Soul Contact

British singer songwriter Giles Foster, resident in Montenero, Livorno, has just released his first CD – Soul Contact - after many months of hard work. The CD has been produced by the local Percorsi Musicali recording studio, where it was arranged by Simone Ricci and Lorenzo Porciani, and recorded, mixed and mastered by Daniele Pistocchi.

Chemical Brothers Stage Set at Italia Wave 200826 July 2008 Just over a week has passed since the four-day Italia Wave music festival came to an end in Livorno. To all account s the event was a huge success, with a sell-out concert at Livorno’s Armando Picchi stadium on 19th July when the British Chemical Brothers topped the bill.

Nigra, winning band in 2008 Livorno RockThe 2008 edition of the Livorno Rock competition came to an end on Monday 8th December when the final evening was held at The Cage in Livorno. The event, organised by the Pietro Napoli Association, saw ten finalists perform before the judges who, after careful consideration, declared Nigra from Reggio Calabria as the competition winners. The second prize was awarded to Aédi from San Severino Marche (Macerata), while third place was won by Labirinto Interno from Turin.
Musicanto - Musical and Cultural Association
La Compagnia dello Spettacolo, one of the Musicanto musical groupsMusicanto is an association based in Livorno which aims to promote musical and cultural activities. It incorporates three musical groups:
The Joyful Gospel Ensemble, a gospel choir of more than forty elements with a wide repertoire of songs from the gospel and spritual tradition. They have produced two cds and perform regularly in local venues.
La Compagnia dello Spettacolo, a theatrical group which has produced its own musical, La Volta che la Notte non Venne written by Riccardo Pagni
Gruppo Vocale Do Re Mi, a choir for children from 8 - 13 years old.
The people behind Musicanto are Riccardo Pagni and Cesarino Schiaffino, and a whole team of enthusiasts.
