Le Livornine, a series of art postcards by the well-known Livornese artist Marc Sardelli, NOW AVAILABLE ONLINE!
Fulvio Tasca (owner of the local publishing and printmaking company, Editasca), and Anna Nosiglia (Casa Anna) came up with the idea of promoting both the city of Livorno and one of its most respected artists through a form of communication which has in many ways been superceded by emails and text messages. For many of us, the postcard is an object of nostalgia, just like the images painted and drawn by Sardelli between the late 1950s and the 1980s.
The idea took shape one afternoon in Marc Sardelli's studio in the presence of the many characters that occupy his cosy Ardenza workshop: soldiers from the Battle of Waterloo, pilots ready to take off from aircraft carriers, mingling with the music of Beethoven, photos of the artist's children, and gifts from his granddaughter. The same intimacy can be felt in Sardelli's images of his beloved city, and the postcard - small, intimate and simple - seemed to be the most fitting way of passing them on to others.
The subjects chosen for the collection include views of places dear to the artist such as the Funicular Railway in Montenero, the Church of San Jacopo, the Naval Academy, and Villa Mimbelli. The original works - a mixture of watercolours and charcoal drawings - have been skillfully reproduced in postcard form by Fulvio Tasca, under the close watch of the artist! The complete set of 22 cards offers a personal view of the entire city of Livorno.
The postcard collection complete with presentation box are available to buy at La Baracchina Rossa (Ardenza mare), Bar I Quattro Mori (end of Via Grande, near the port), Libreria Belforte (Via della Madonna), Editasca (Antignano), and are on permanent display at the Hotel Rex (Antignano). The postcards are also available to buy individually (€2.50 each)
