Livorno’s football club, AS Livorno, was founded in 1915 when the game was introduced to the city by the son of the British viceconsul who is said to have learned the rules by watching British sailors play on the docks.
AS Livorno played their first home game in this 2008-9 season against Mantova last night, Sunday 7th September, at the Armando Picchi Stadium in Ardenza. The match finished in a 1-1 draw.

14th April 2012 The whole of Italy is stunned and saddened at the tragic death of AS Livorno footballer Piermario Morosini during Livorno's away match against Pescara earlier today.
Morosini collapsed during the first half of the match and was rushed to hospital in Pescara, where he later died of a heart attack.
The Bergamo-born midfielder was 25 years old and had been playing for Livorno since January this year, on loan from Udinese.
All Italian football matches have been cancelled for the rest of the weekend.
